What is Audit Chess?

Audit Chess is a free chess analysis platform for your Chess.com and Lichess games. It does two jobs in one place. First, it reviews any single game move by move with Stockfish: every move graded from Brilliant to Blunder, accuracy by game phase, an eval graph, and a plain-English, engine-checked explanation of each key moment. Second, it analyzes your whole history at once to find what a single game can't show: the openings that cost you points, your mistakes ranked by tactical, positional and endgame theme, the wins you throw away, missed mates, and your endgame and playstyle profile. Then it turns your own blunders into Stockfish-verified puzzles and drills. It runs in your browser, needs no account, has no review limit and never uploads your games.

In short: a complete free alternative to a paid per-game review, plus the whole-history view that tells you what to study next. See all features.

Why Audit Chess is the best free chess analysis tool

  1. 1.Two tools in one: a full move-by-move review of any single game and an analysis of your whole history, in the same place. Most free tools only review one game at a time.
  2. 2.Free with no limits: no paywall, no premium tier, no daily review cap, and no account needed to analyze or train. Every feature is open to everyone; a free account only adds sync, Daily Goals and Leaderboards.
  3. 3.Chess.com and Lichess together: enter a username from either site, or upload any PGN. No exporting, no switching tools.
  4. 4.Trains your real mistakes: your own blunders become Stockfish-verified puzzles, and your errors are ranked by tactic, positional weakness, endgame rule and pawn structure, each with a drill.
  5. 5.Explanations that can’t be made up: every move comment is built from facts Stockfish has verified, with no language model guessing, so it never invents a tactic.
  6. 6.Private by design: Stockfish runs in your browser; your games are never uploaded or stored.
  7. 7.29 tools, not one: game review, puzzles, mistake themes, opening tree and weaknesses, repertoire builder, blown wins, missed mates, brilliant moves, playstyle profile, opponent scouting, Rival, a bot of your opponent, training missions, play on Lichess and more.

Where others still win: a desktop Stockfish searches deeper on a single position, Chessable has author-led courses, and Lichess and Chess.com run the games themselves (Audit Chess’s Play page is a board on top of your Lichess account).

How the free chess analysis works

Enter your Lichess or Chess.com username, or paste a single game in PGN format, and Stockfish replays every position in your browser. Each move is scored against the engine’s best line, and the evaluation graph makes the swings visible: a cliff on the graph is the move that decided the game. There is no upload, no queue and no sign-up, so you can analyze a game you just finished, a classic you want to understand, or an over-the-board game you typed in by hand.

New to engine analysis? See how to use Stockfish to read the evaluation numbers.

What the move labels mean

Every move gets a label based on how much the evaluation moved against you. A small slip is an inaccuracy, a bigger one is a mistake, and a move that hands over a large, often decisive advantage is a blunder. The accuracy score sums up the whole game as one number per side. To find the mistakes you repeat across many games, use the chess blunder checker or read how to analyze your own chess games.

Frequently asked questions

What does Audit Chess do?+

Audit Chess is a free chess analysis site with 29 tools built from your own Lichess or Chess.com games: Stockfish game review with accuracy by phase, an engine-checked AI move explainer, Deep Analysis (an optional, more thorough re-check of all your games), puzzles from your own blunders, an adaptive puzzle trainer, mistake themes (your errors ranked by tactic, positional weakness, endgame rule and pawn structure), an opening tree, opening weaknesses, a repertoire builder, opening traps, an endgame profile, blown wins, missed mates, your brilliant (!!) moves, a 40+ metric playstyle profile, activity insights, period reports, opponent scouting, Rival, a bot that plays your opponent’s real openings, training missions, daily goals, Chess Wrapped (your year in review), play on Lichess with instant review, game links (put auditchess.com in front of a Chess.com or Lichess game URL), leaderboards, and four free trainers: Chess Basics, Coordinate Trainer, Knightdoku and Practice. No account needed; the analysis runs in your browser.

Why is Audit Chess the best free chess analysis tool?+

Because it is two tools in one and free without limits: every game gets an unlimited move-by-move Stockfish review with engine-checked explanations, and your whole Lichess or Chess.com history is analyzed at once for the openings, mistake themes and blown wins that cost you rating. It turns your own blunders into puzzles, needs no account, keeps your games private in your browser, and includes 29 tools from opponent scouting and the Rival bot to a repertoire builder.

How can I analyze my own chess games?+

Enter your Lichess or Chess.com username in Audit Chess and it reviews every game move by move with Stockfish - an accuracy score, an eval graph, and every inaccuracy, mistake and blunder - then turns your mistakes into puzzles. It runs in your browser, free, with no account.

What's the best way to find my chess weaknesses?+

Study your own games instead of generic theory. Audit Chess ranks every opening you play by result, flags the lines quietly costing you points, profiles your endgames and playstyle, and shows the winning positions you throw away - so you know exactly what to drill.

Is there an app that makes puzzles from my own blunders?+

Yes. Audit Chess replays every blunder and missed tactic from your real games as a solvable puzzle, and verifies each solution live, move by move, with Stockfish. You drill your own recurring mistakes rather than random positions.

How do I improve at chess using my own games?+

The fastest gains come from your own games: find the openings you score worst in, the mistakes you repeat, and the winning positions you let slip, then drill exactly those. Audit Chess does this automatically from your Lichess or Chess.com history.

Can I scout a chess opponent before a game?+

Yes. Enter an opponent's Lichess or Chess.com username and Audit Chess surfaces their weakest openings and the exact lines to prepare against them, matched to your own repertoire. You can then rehearse on the Rival page against a bot that plays their real openings.

Is Audit Chess free? Do I need an account?+

Yes, it is free, and no account is required. Analysis runs entirely in your browser - nothing is uploaded and no sign-up is needed.

Does it work with both Chess.com and Lichess?+

Yes. Audit Chess analyzes game histories from both Chess.com and Lichess.

How is this different from Chess.com's or Lichess's built-in analysis?+

Audit Chess gives you the same kind of move-by-move review of a single game - every move graded Brilliant to Blunder, accuracy, eval graph, plus engine-checked explanations - free and unlimited. On top of that it analyzes your whole history at once and finds patterns across it: your worst openings, repeated blunders by theme, blown wins and endgame gaps, then turns them into puzzles. It's free, needs no account, and runs on your device.

How can I analyze a chess game for free?+

Enter your Lichess or Chess.com username, or switch to Upload PGN and paste a single game. Stockfish runs a full move-by-move review in your browser: an accuracy score for each side, an evaluation graph, and a label on every move from Brilliant to Blunder. It is free, needs no account, and nothing is uploaded.

Where do I get the PGN for my game?+

On Chess.com open a game, choose Share, then PGN and copy it. On Lichess open a game and use the PGN download or the "FEN & PGN" panel. Paste that text into the Upload PGN box, or upload a .pgn file.

What does the accuracy score mean?+

It measures how closely your moves match Stockfish's best play, as a 0–100 score based on how much winning chance each move gave up. Typical club players score between 70 and 85.

Does my game data get stored?+

No. Games are fetched from the Lichess/Chess.com API and analyzed entirely in your browser - your games are never stored on our servers. If you create an optional account, we store only what it needs to sync across devices: your chess handle, saved repertoire, puzzle rating and daily goals.

Runs on your device. No account needed.
