Frequently asked questions
How do I set up a chess position?
Tap a piece in the bar above or below the board, then tap the squares where it goes (tap again to remove it). Use the hand to drag pieces around, or drag a piece off the board to delete it. Choose who is to move and the castling rights on the right.
What is a FEN?
FEN (Forsyth-Edwards Notation) is a one-line text description of a chess position: where every piece stands, whose turn it is, castling rights and the en passant square. The editor writes it as you go - copy it to share the position, or paste one in to load it.
Why is “Analysis board” greyed out?
The position is not legal yet - for example a side has no king or two kings, a pawn is on the first or last rank, or the side that is not to move is in check. The message under the buttons says what to fix.
