About
About Audit Chess
Audit Chess is a free web app that turns your real Lichess and Chess.com games into a personalized training plan. It reviews every game with Stockfish, ranks the openings costing you points, profiles your endgames and playstyle, finds the winning positions you let slip, and turns your own blunders into puzzles - all in your browser, with no account and nothing uploaded.
Why it was built
The fastest way to improve at chess is to study your own games, not generic theory - but doing it by hand across hundreds of games is impractical, so most players never do it. Audit Chess automates the whole thing: it finds the patterns in your play that a single-game review can never show, and points you at exactly what to work on.
It started as a curiosity project - I wanted to find out whether analysis this deep could run entirely in your browser, on your own device, for free. That question turned into the tool you are using now.
What's the goal?
A lot of people ask me what my goal with Audit Chess is. The honest answer is that I don't have one. I'm building it for the fun of the game. I don't plan on making any money from it - I'm just doing this because why not. I'm more curious than ambitious with Audit Chess, and I just want to see where it goes.
That is also why everything here is free, with no paywalls, no ads and no account required.
Who's behind it
I'm Atulya Gupta, and I build and maintain Audit Chess. I'm an Economics & Statistics student at Sri Venkateswara College, and I enjoy building products, automating workflows and solving problems with data. I've represented Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand at the national level in both chess and swimming - so I take the game seriously at the board as well as in code.
Under the hood I built it with Next.js, TypeScript, Python, Stockfish (WebAssembly), Web Workers and IndexedDB, with a focus on running heavy analysis fast and entirely in your browser. It's an independent project driven more by curiosity than by any grand plan: I simply want to make deep, honest analysis of your own games easy and free.
You can follow the project on X (@Auditchess), Instagram (@auditchess), YouTube (@auditchess) and LinkedIn, or connect with me directly on LinkedIn.
What it analyzes
From a single username, Audit Chess reviews your whole history with Stockfish and turns it into a study plan: a move-by-move game review with accuracy scores, an opening tree that ranks the lines costing you points, a weakness finder, a Themes view that sorts your mistakes by tactical, positional and endgame theme and scores you in each pawn structure, endgame and playstyle profiles, detection of winning positions you let slip, period reports on your recent form, and puzzles built from your own blunders. An AI move explainer adds plain-English, engine-checked notes on the key moments of any game, and a repertoire builder lets you build and drill your own opening lines. You can also scout an opponent to surface their weakest openings before you play them, and sharpen the fundamentals with free training tools - Chess Basics, a Coordinate Trainer, Knightdoku and Practice.
Runs on your device
Analysis happens in your browser. You enter a public Lichess or Chess.com username and Stockfish evaluates your games locally - there is no account to create and your games are not uploaded to a server. The privacy story is simple because the architecture is: your data stays with you.
Who it's for
Audit Chess is built for club and improving players - roughly 800 to 2200 - on Chess.com and Lichess who want to get better using their own games instead of one-size-fits-all lessons.
