About the Queen
The queen is worth about 9 pawns, the most of any piece.
- It combines the rook and bishop: any distance in a straight line or along a diagonal.
- Bringing the queen out too early lets your opponent attack it and develop pieces with tempo, so develop minor pieces first.
- Because it is so valuable, check every move that the queen is not left undefended or open to a fork.
- A queen and king can force checkmate against a lone king. It is one of the first mates to learn.
